Appearance: Darkwing is on the short side for an average male duck. He is rather handsome otherwise, with nicely groomed white feathers and a strong orange duck bill. As Drake Mallard, he wears a green sweater vest and dress shirt most often. As Darkwing he blue-green turtleneck under a purple suit jacket and a dark purple cape, the underside of the cape being pink. He has a light purple hat and mask to complete the outfit.
Personality: Darkwing Duck is a superhero. Wherever there is a citizen in danger, whenever a crime must be stopped, whoever needs rescue, he will be there! He is a brilliant sleuth and a master in martial arts. Unfortunately, he is also an egomaniac to the extreme. He is a glory hound and whenever it's threaten, he becomes jealous and often forgets about the villain. Though, usually with a reminder from Gosalyn or Launchpad, he gets control of himself and gets the villain.

He is willing to brave whatever danger there is to do his job, even when he's scared. And he does get scared, but being a brave is what heroes do. He is also very tentative when it comes to detail. With a knowledge of so many things, even the tiniest clue can tell him all he needs to know. He does have a bad habit of being so concerned with the small details, he'll ignore the big, obvious facts before him. Such as noticing a bread crumb versus a flag to find a villains hide out. And sometimes because of this, the underestimation of a foe, or his long winded speeches, he'll appear as a bumbling idiot and mess up.

Darkwing is quite protective of those he cares for, even more so then the ordinary citizens. Launchpad, Morgana, and most especially Gosalyn. If any of these three were threatened, he'd do anything to keep them safe, even give up his own life or risk many others. When it comes to those three, he's even willing to give up his pride or do something incredibly stupid to keep them alive and in his life.

Abilities/Strengths: Darkwing has many talents. His most notable is his vast knowledge on most anything. Chemistry, math, history, geography, able to use most any vehicle, random facts of trivia. Even mundane things like cooking and cleaning techniques. Perhaps one of the only subjects he isn't well versed in is botany, preferring to learn things that can be used in a city then in nature. He also lacks knowledge on languages beyond English, and Chinese.

He has a black belt in Quack-Fu, from world renowned master Goose Lee.

He knows how to take a beating. Be it punches, blunt weapons, hitting a ground or wall, and explosions. Years of taking abuse has allowed him to be quite enduring.

He is very agile and very quick for a normal being. Even managing to dodge bullets if the need arises and is quite the jumper. He can also untie knots in seconds and is quite the escape artist.

Scare tactics. Darkwing often uses the element of surprise and the unknown for his advantage. Able to appear almost by magic in his trademark cloud of blue smoke and always seeming to appear from nowhere and Darkwing knows how to scare a person, given his cover isn't blown.

His cunning and eye for detail. Darkwing can spot even the smallest thing in a situation and find out what he needs to solve the case and if he's in a tight spot, is usually able to use his environment, or a 'just in case' item he has on him to deal with the situation.

Technology. Darkwing is very adapt at figuring out how to work a machine and loves to use gadgets to save the day. His favorite is his gas gun which has a range of different gases and other things it can fire.

Weaknesses: His ego is his biggest weakness. He is an egomaniac. His ego is so big, it's the size of a small planet. Because of this, he usually believes he can handle anything on his own and can be easily conned into traps if it strokes his ego just right. Even when others can see it's a trap, more often then not, he won't believe he's wrong until he's made a major blunder.

His inability to see the most obvious things. Darkwing has a tendency to miss the bigger, more obvious clues to a case. The fact is, he believes a case always has to be complicated and there must only be a small clue to give away the villain.

Overzealous. There are times where Darkwing has gotten so into what he's doing, he slips up and will get himself in trouble. The usual reason he is called a bumbling fool is because he became overzealous which allowed him to be clumsy and either hurt his case horribly, or sometimes, let's him save the day.

His heart. From years of being a social outcast and his own forced isolation, Darkwing has become very attached to those he cares for now. Launchpad, Morgana, and especially Gosalyn. If any of them are put in danger, he will do whatever it takes to save them. Even surrender himself in their place.

Anti-socialism. Darkwing has isolated himself for years and because of this, he can be quite awkward, rude, and/or tactless with people.

Notable Possessions: His trademark possession is his gas gun. The gas gun can fire anything from knock out gas to a grapple to confetti.

Darkwing carries a lot of gadgets and tools for 'just in case' situations. Bombs disguised as regular items that his usual villains or their minions will follow like a bone or toy. A hand saw, a special magnifying glass, a blow torch, night vision goggles, a phone book, a pencil communicator, rope, photos of himself, matches, spare costume, the ammo for the gas gun as well as the gun itself, and many other random things he believes may help him fight crime that he can get his hands on. He usually carries this in a sort of infinite space holding device he obtained on his first mission with SHUSH.

History: Does Darkwing come from humble beginnings? Far from it! Drake Mallard was the son of a rather wealthy family. His father was a famous chemist and his mother was a rather popular comic book artist. As such, he was raised to study hard, and an appreciation for comic superheroes. However, at the age of ten, tragedy struck. While Drake was away at school, his house exploded. His father had been working on an experiment and having made a breakthrough with one aspect, forgot the beaker on the fire, causing a violent reaction from the chemical with prolong exposure to heat and a chain reaction to chemicals around it caused the destruction of the house and Drake's parents' death.

From then on, Drake grew more fearful of the world, losing himself in comics, staying at his school and living at the orphanage. Because of his meek behavior at that time, he always hid from the adults and his inheritance would only go to him. With no incentive, he was never adopted. At the age of eleven, however, things change. He was reading a comic book when one of his usual bullies was picking on him. However, this bully decided to drag Drake to help his brother with something. Namely a robbery.

Drake didn't want anything to do with the robbery, but through a turn of events, got involved even after the act thanks to one Darkwing Duck and his 'sidekick' Gosalyn. They taught him how to act tough and stand up to bullies and dragged him along to help stop the bully's brother, otherwise known as The King. However, they walked into a trap and it ended up falling to Drake to help save the day. And it was then his interest in becoming a true hero was sparked.

He wanted to stay brave like he was that night and learn skills to fight evil if the need arose. So he took the money that his parents left for him and started to explore the world, learning skills from masters all around the world. Tibetan yoga, fire walkers, trackers, detectives, martial artists. He did this for years until his senior year in high school. He was able to make up the work he missed easily enough from his abroad studies to take his senior year in his home town. He kept his travels and fortune a secret however, so showing off his brain and overzealousness gave him the nickname Drake the Dweeb.

Drake didn't let that get him down and tried to prove himself. Then he had his chance at Senior Prom. When Megavolt attacked the prom goers, Drake had saved the day. Failing as Drake, but succeeding at Darkwing.After graduation, Drake planned one more teacher. The famous Goose lee! After traveling across the world to China, he pleased with Goose Lee to train him. And Goose Lee accepted. Drake was an excellent student, using his previous skills to learn his techniques quickly, but he never got the black belt. He learned all the techniques except for one; the belly bounce. A technique he would not perfect till several years later to gain his black belt.

However, after months of trying to learn the one technique, Drake became so frustrated he left to become a superhero to show up his master. Now, how can someone be a hero to start fighting crime for such a petty reason? One can't. However, Drake, or now Darkwing, had another reason he gained after he started. Darkwing's home town was not hero-less. Oh, far from it. There was one hero there. A teenage girl superhero by the name The Mysterious Masked Avenger of Evil. Or Avenger for short. Darkwing decided to work with her at first, just to get into the swing of things. This was before his incredible ego told him to work alone.

During the time he helped the Avenger, they grew close as friends. Darkwing admired the young girl and the young girl could see his misguided pettiness could be turned around. However, before she could do that herself, after recently putting away Taurus Bulba, one of his henchmen found out her weakness; koo-koo-cola. She had been lured into a trap. Darkwing had found the note that led her to it and followed her. By the time he arrived, it was too late to save her. All he could he do was listen to her departing words for him to become a real hero. Darkwing took her words seriously and took residence in her Tower hide out to become a solo crime fighter. There were times he would work for SHUSH, but only because of valuable technology and information he could gain, but he refused to work with the agents unless absolutely necessary. Darkwing isolated himself. He believed he needed no one.

Then came the Taurus Bulba case. Once Darkwing knew it was Taurus who wanted the Ramrod and that he wanted the inventor's granddaughter for the code, he stepped into action. One part because he wanted the glory, his pettiness still strong. The other because he was a hero. As soon as he learned who the girl was and where she was, he went to pick her up. Ironically enough, at the same orphanage he was. There was some difficulty at first, the girl believing him the enemy, and the man named Launchpad still chasing him to be his sidekick, but he got through it. He eventually got the girl to safety and found out her name was Gosalyn. It was quite odd. She reminded him so much of the Avenger, it was eerie. He made no comment, of course, and reluctantly hid her in his hide out after she threatened to reveal where he was. After spending time with the girl, he started to grow fond of her.

A brave, spirited young girl who was all alone in the world. No family and stuck in an orphanage. He felt a connection with her. A connection he hadn't felt in years. After falling into Taurus' trap and allowing her to be kidnapped was one of the scariest moments of his life. He was only thankful he was able to save her with the help of expert flyer Launchpad McQuack. Of course, he realized how close it had been. How close it had been for them both to lose their lives. It put things in persceptive for him and he decided to let someone in. He allowed Launchpad to become his sidekick and he adopted Gosalyn, taking on his real identity Drake Mallard to raise her, buying a house with the last of the money from the inheritance and taking more SHUSH cases to pay the bills and all the like.

Darkwing never left so alive in years. He continued his crime fighting with Launchpad who became his best friend as well as Gosalyn, though his daughter came against his orders. Sometimes her friend Honker helped as well. Of course Darkwing worried. Crime fighting wasn't a safe place for a child. He could only thank his lucky stars that the villains thought she and the others were a fan club of sorts and so never gave them special attention except for when they were in the way. He supposed it was a relief that Gosalyn also had some skills in crime fighting herself.

Darkwing has gained more cherished ones since then. He does care about Honker, since he's Gosalyn's best friend. And he does suppose Binky and Herb are friends despite their annoyance. He's even more friendly with J. Gander. And then there's Morgana. Morgana, a criminal converted from crime and the love of Darkwing's life. A beautiful sorceress and one of the three people Darkwing will do ANYTHING to keep safe.

Through his years of crime fighting, Darkwing has gained many enemies and now many allies. Loved ones and other heroes. Out of all the villains, there are only two the Darkwing considers a true threat. One is Taurus Bulba, the one villain who truly scares him. The next is Negaduck. His evil alternate self and one he is always wary when fighting, though he still acts overzealous with him and Negaduck uses that to his advantage. Though since discovering where Negaduck's from, Darkwing is even more concerned. It was the simple fact if Negaduck thought about it, he could figure out who Gosalyn really was. The difference in their daughter's attire couldn't protect her forever.

However, it was not a problem Darkwing thought much of after Negaduck's escape from the dimensional drain and still didn't realize a thing. So Darkwing went about business as usual, not giving it another thought. Unfortunately, he should have an a certain Binky got her hands on Gosalyn for a certain dance.

A father-daughter dance. Drake thought it would be a nice way to bond with his daughter and when Binky heard, she dressed Gosalyn right up. Darkwing noted that Gosalyn appeared to be just like her counterpart, but figuring she wouldn't be involved in crime fighting in that dress, saw no harm. So they went to the dance, had a wonderful time, and went home. Drake didn't count on coincidence though. While stopping at a store for some milk, Negaduck happened to be roaming the streets and figured out exactly who Gosalyn was and who Darkwing was. And that was when it turned for the worst. That night, Negaduck had been on a mission. A mission to all the plant nurseries in the city, destroying a certain plant that was a cure for a certain poison. A poison he had planned for Darkwing until a more sinister idea came to mind.

There was no crime. There was no battle. Both father and child were just sleeping at home when the alarm went off. When Darkwing hurried to Gosalyn's room, it had been too late. Negaduck had already injected the poison in her and a message. Gosalyn became the target because her death would truly destroy Darkwing.

Darkwing and Launchpad hurried to the hospital and then Morgana for the cure, but they did not know it. Then he went to SHUSH and he found out there was a cure and what the cure was. Unfortunately, the plants Negaduck had destroyed nights earlier was a key ingredient. Without it, she would not be cured.

Darkwing was told she had hours left. There was only one person they knew who could make the plant grow fast enough, not able to fly in a sample quick enough. Namely Bushroot. It was on the way to his usual greenhouse the Darkwing was taken to Econtra.
